Anti Money Laundering: Requirements for accounting professionals Webinar
Date: 17th June 2025
Time: 04.00pm-06.00pm
Delivery Mode: Virtual

Overview

The threat of money laundering poses significant risks to the integrity of financial systems and the reputation of the accounting profession. Accountants, due to the nature of their work, are uniquely positioned to identify and report suspicious financial activities and they play a critical role in prevention and detection of money laundering. As regulatory expectations evolve there is an increasing need for accountants to understand and comply with anti-money laundering (AML) requirements including robust client due diligence, record keeping and reporting obligations.
In Kenya and globally, regulatory bodies have intensified their focus on AML compliance, requiring professionals in the finance sector to adhere to stricter standards. The Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act (POCAMLA) along with guidelines issued by the Financial Reporting Centre (FRC), outlines specific responsibilities for accountants, including risk assessments and the implementation of internal control systems. Non- compliance can lead to serious legal, reputational and financial consequences.

As financial crime methods continue to evolve, accountants must also keep pace with emerging technologies that are reshaping AML monitoring. Tools such as data analytics, artificial intelligence and blockchain are increasingly being adopted to enhance the detection and reporting of suspicious activities. Familiarity with these innovations can significantly improve an accountant’s ability to identify risks and implement proactive compliance strategies

This webinar will equip accounting professionals with practical knowledge and guidance to meet the AML obligations and support the global fight against financial crime.

Key topics to be covered include:
1. Overview of money laundering and its impact on the accounting profession
