Overview
In 2023, the ransomware attack on MOVEit Transfer, a widely used file transfer system, resulted in the exposure of sensitive data across more than 2,000 organizations globally, including banks, pension funds, universities, and even government agencies. This breach highlighted a stark reality: organizations can no longer afford to view cybersecurity as just an IT concern—it is now a critical pillar of corporate governance, financial integrity, and public trust.
Cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, targeted, and disruptive. In Kenya, the Kenya National CERT Coordination Centre (KE-CIRT/CC) reported an alarming rise in incidents involving phishing, social engineering, and ransomware against financial institutions, government systems, and small enterprises. These attacks exploit not just technical vulnerabilities but also human errors and weak internal controls.
Organizations are therefore under increasing pressure to adopt resilient cybersecurity frameworks that go beyond compliance and build operational endurance. A resilient cybersecurity program must integrate proactive risk identification, incident response readiness, adaptive learning, and continuous systems monitoring, forming part of a broader enterprise risk management approach. It must also recognize that cybersecurity is no longer just about preventing breaches, but about surviving, adapting, and recovering from them while protecting critical data and maintaining business continuity.
As technologies such as cloud computing, blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and IoT transform how organizations process and store data, they simultaneously introduce new threat surfaces. Finance and audit professionals must be equipped with knowledge and tools to not only identify these risks but also evaluate and implement internal controls that stand up to modern cyber threats.
To help institutions keep pace with this evolving risk landscape, this webinar will unpack the most pressing cybersecurity risks and offer hands-on frameworks and methodologies for implementing resilient security controls. Through practical demonstrations and real-world case studies, participants will be taken through a journey from cybersecurity risk awareness to strategic response and recovery.
